Tips For Getting Pregnant

Getting PregantFor many couples, getting pregnant and having a baby is a life long dream. And after spending so much of our adult lives trying not to get pregnant, it can come as a bit of a shock for many, when they realise that conceiving a baby is not always as straight forward as we would like. Below are some easy to follow tips to getting pregnant faster.

Tip 1: It’s important to remove as much stress from your life as possible and take the time to relax your body and your mind. Too much stress in your life will decrease your chances of getting pregnant.

Tip 2: Unhealthy habits like drinking caffeine, smoking or drinking alcohol should all be eliminated from your life. All three of these things can affect your ability to carry a child. Studies show that caffeine, in particular is responsible for more than fifty percent of women taking longer than a few months to get pregnant.

Tip 3: Make sure you are eating a well balanced diet, with the correct amounts of proteins, nutrients, vitamins and so on. Not only will this help your body to be healthy and ready to conceive, but it will also help you to carry the child through to a healthy birth.

These 3 tips are easy and basic but very important to put into place when trying to get pregnant. And it’s also important when trying to get pregnant to be aware of your body’s natural cycle and when you are at our most fertile. Read my post on Trying To Get Pregnant – Cycle Awareness.

Trying To Get Pregnant – Cycle Awareness

trying to get pregnant cycle pic 1If you’re are trying to get pregnant, cycle awareness is one of the most important factors.

So When Is The Best Time To Get Pregnant?

The best time to get pregnant is when you are at your most fertile, and that is during the period of ovulation in your menstrual cycle. This is when a mature ovum is released from your ovaries into the uterus. For about 12 hours the egg or ovum is ready to be fertilized, after which time is begins to degenerate. The best way to determine when you are ovulating is to pay attention to your body and learn to recognize the signs of ovulation. At the time of ovulation is when sexual intercourse for procreation is going to be most important.

Counting The Days To Getting Pregnant

A common method of finding out when you are ovulating is by counting days. First off, you need to figure out when your next period is due, from this date, count back 12 to 16 days. This will give you the range of days that you are probably ovulating. In a ‘normal’ case, for women with a 28-day cycle, the 14th day is often the best day to try to conceive. To use this method, you must know how long your cycle usually lasts and have relatively regular cycles.

Cervical Mucus

As you progress through your cycle, your cervical mucus increases in volume and changes texture, this reflects your body’s rising levels of estrogen. The best time to try to conceive is when the mucus becomes clear, slippery, and stretchy. At this stage the mucus can be compared to raw egg whites. The role of this mucus is to nourish, protect, and speed the sperm on its way up through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes for the fertilization with your egg.

Basal Temperature

A rise in your body temperature can also be an indication that you are ovulating, though it cannot really pin point the best time to get pregnant. Following ovulation, basal body temperature can increase by 0.5 to 1.6 degrees. You won’t feel the change in temperature, but you can detect it by using a basal thermometer.  This temperature increase is caused by the increased production of the hormone progesterone stimulated by ovulation. So the best time to get pregnant is in the two or three days before your temperature hits its high point.

Tummy Pain

Many women will recognise they are ovulating due to lower abdominal discomfort.  Approximately one-fifth of women actually feel ovulatory activity, which can range from mild aches to twinges of pain in the lower abdomen area. The condition, called mittelschmerz, may last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

When trying to get pregnant, cycle awareness is important. But if you know how to recognize where in your cycle you are, you can determine the best times for you and your partner to try and conceive. See my previous post on How To Get Pregnant Fast!

How to Get Pregnant Fast

newborn1

If you and your partner have decided that the time is right for you to begin your family, you may be thinking a lot about how you can go about getting pregnant as quickly as possible. Especially if you are advancing in age.

Firstly, try to keep in mind that pregnancy is very difficult to control or force, you are ultimately just going to have to wait for Mother Nature to help you along! If you’re used to being completely in control of everything in your life, this can be quite frustrating for you. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of things that you can do to help increase your chances of getting pregnant quickly.

Pregnancy occurs when you have intercourse during your ovulation period and one of the sperm manages to connect up with the egg that you have released. You only release one egg per month (unless there is some sort of irregularity, it which case you could release two eggs and conceive twins), so there are approximately twelve opportunities for you to get pregnant each year. The window of opportunity in each of these months may be as small as two or three days. This can be pretty alarming for couples who are wanting to know how to get pregnant fast, be it doesn’t have to be that way.

With this in mind, the main factor when trying to conceive a baby is knowing when you are ovulating each month. If you can do this successfully, you will be able to have intercourse on these days (and a few days before and after) in order to improve the odds that you will become pregnant that month. If you do not know when you are ovulating, you may miss these days and not have intercourse. This means that you will probably not become pregnant in that month, and you will have to wait until the next month for another opportunity.

If you don’t want to work out when your ovulating days are, you could have sex every day to make sure you take advantage of the days when you are! This may not be practical or even possible for some couples.

So the other, slightly less tiring approach on how to get pregnant fast is to use an ovulation detector to determine when you are ovulating. These can be purchased in the feminine care aisle of the grocery or drugstore and used at home to tell you when you are fertile. Then it is up to you to have intercourse on these days to conceive. No matter how you do it, good luck as you try to get pregnant fast!
